HARRISBURG, Pa., May 12, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Worldwide industrial services and products company Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) announced today that its Heckett MultiServ division, the world's leading provider of outsourced, on-site services to steel mills and other metals producers, has been awarded a new ten-year contract that will significantly expand its scope of services at SMI Steel-Alabama, a unit of Dallas-based Commercial Metals Company.
The contract calls for Heckett MultiServ to undertake a range of additional services that include liquid slag transport via mobile pot carriers, scrap management, revert scrap preparation and mill scale processing. All of the new services are expected to be mobilized and fully operational beginning in the third quarter of this year. Heckett MultiServ currently provides slag handing and metal recovery services at the Birmingham, Alabama-based EAF (electric arc furnace) mill.
The new contract with its expanded scope of services is expected to significantly increase Heckett MultiServ's annual revenues from this location and generate positive Economic Value Added (EVA(r)) benefit. Specific terms were not disclosed.
SMI Steel-Alabama produces high-quality structural steel materials for use in construction, transportation, energy and fabrication applications. The mill currently produces more than 650,000 liquid steel tons annually.
Heckett MultiServ operates on-site at approximately 150 mills in over 30 countries, providing a broad range of high-technology services that include slag handling and metal recovery, by-product recovery and recycling, semi- and finished-product management, integrated materials handling, specialist transportation, and asphalt and aggregate marketing.
