I Gave You Life Twice -- New Book Details Jewish Author's Escape from Nazi Germany

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 5, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Adolf Hitler held Europe in his diabolical grip and tore countries and families apart in his campaign of hate and domination. For the Jewish people who escaped his wrath, there is a feeling of sadness for those who did not. The new autobiography, I Gave You Life Twice: A Story of Survival, Dreams, Betrayals and Accomplishments (now available through 1stBooks), examines the life and times of Henry Fribourg, from his escape from the Nazi machine to all the good he has spread since.

I Gave You Life Twice is his life story, beginning during his childhood in France. He details the carefree life he enjoyed up until the Panzer tanks rolled into France, threatening his Jewish family with death. He relates how he escaped with his pregnant mother and sister, dodging bombs and machine guns along the road to eventual freedom. They were later joined by their father, a soldier in the French Army, in Vichy France, but left for Algeria in the midst of mounting anti-Semitism. Eventually, they made it to the United States via Cuba, but lost over two score of their family members in the Nazi death camps.

The second half of the book recounts his life in America. He went to college, emerging with a doctorate in crop science. After two years in the Korean War, he returned, married and joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee. There, he did a myriad of notable work in the field of agriculture, teaching, assisting foreign countries and publishing more than 400 papers, book chapters and bulletins for farmers.

His memoir, supported by detailed recollections and more than 60 photographs and copies of documents, is a fascinating story of determination and the will to survive. I Gave You Life Twice stands as a testament to the human spirit and serves as a dedication to those who lost their lives to the evil of misguided men.

I Gave You Life Twice is his first book.
