Independent Research Firm Names Whale as a Leader in the SSL VPN Market

Report Notes Whale's Clear Value Proposition and Cites it in Top Three in Market Share

FORT LEE, N.J., April 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Whale Communications, the leading Application Aware(TM) SSL VPN vendor, today announced that it has been named as a leader in the March 2004 Forrester Wave(TM) report, titled: "Making SSL VPNs a Strategic Part of Your Network." The report ranked eight vendors in the space and noted Whale for its primary focus on large enterprises and cited Whale for its clear value proposition, very strong technology and being in the top three in market share.

Whale's e-Gap Remote Access Appliances contains the most original SSL VPN design, wrote Robert Whiteley, associate analyst for Forrester, adding that security-conscious enterprises should look at Whale, which will continue to execute on its strong vision for this space. Whiteley states that Whale is top three in market share. He adds that Whale has a healthy enterprise customer base and that customers are currently deploying at extremely large-scale production levels.

In the report, Forrester's score card of Whale also notes the company's technology is very strong compared to others in the industry. It states that Whale does a better job than others in the industry in clearly articulating cost savings and that Whale can demonstrate its value proposition to customers. It concludes that Whale will be one of three vendors to drive SSL VPN innovation.

"We are pleased that an internationally independent research firm like Forrester has named Whale as an SSL VPN leader," said Daniel Steiner, Whale's president. "Forrester's recognition in the report of Whale's strong strategy and leadership in product innovation is yet another independent confirmation of Whale's ability to shape the market."
