Emulex Open Source Driver Part of New Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Distribution

Emulex 2.6 Kernel Driver Supports Operating System Enhancements in the Areas of Binding and Management

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, and Red Hat (Nasdaq:RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source to the enterprise, today announced the availability of the Emulex Open Source driver version 8.0 as part of Red Hat's Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4) distribution.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 implements the latest Linux 2.6 kernel developed by the Open Source community, that delivers enhanced scalability, performance, robustness and manageability to a rapidly growing enterprise customer base. The integration of the Emulex 8.0 driver in this distribution represents the culmination of extensive engineering cooperation and cross-testing involving Red Hat, Emulex and several OEM partners.

"Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 offers unprecedented capabilities for large-scale production deployment of Linux solutions, and Emulex Fibre Channel connectivity solutions are a primary element of these solutions," said Deborah Woods, Vice President, Product Management at Red Hat. "We are extremely satisfied with the high quality technical relationship we have achieved with Emulex engineering, and the result of our joint development efforts bring substantial benefits to Linux users and Open Source technologies."

Among the benefits brought by RHEL 4 to storage environments are enhanced binding of remote storage volumes, and centralized collection of Fibre Channel generated management events and status. The Emulex 8.0 driver is the first to fully support these capabilities, some of which have been enhanced by Emulex code contributions to the Linux reference kernel. "With Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, the Linux operating system has evolved to offer a robust set of new storage connectivity capabilities, which Emulex is proud to have contributed to. Because of collaborative development efforts with Red Hat, Emulex is the first to fully support the enhanced capabilities of RHEL 4," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing at Emulex Corp. "Emulex looks forward to ongoing partnership efforts with Linux technology leaders to support the remarkable success of its burgeoning enterprise users."

The Emulex 8.0 driver is available now as part of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 distributions. Production kits, including graphical and command line management tools, are planned for release by Emulex and its OEM partners.
