SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 5, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The median performance of master trusts was down -0.85 percent in the first quarter of 2005, but up 7.2 percent for the last 12 months, according to the results of the Trust Universe Comparison Service(R) (TUCS(R)), a cooperative effort between Wilshire Analytics, the investment technology unit of Wilshire Associates, and custodial organizations. With 350 plan participants representing approximately $2 trillion in assets, TUCS is the most widely accepted benchmark for the performance of institutional assets and includes data from corporate and public plans as well as endowments and foundations.
Master trusts with assets greater than $1 billion performed slightly better with a median loss of -0.69 percent during the first quarter and up 7.80 percent for the last four quarters. Public funds median performance was down -0.90 percent for the quarter, but up 6.96 percent for the last 12 months while corporate funds showed a median loss of -0.87 percent for the quarter with a gain of 7.44 percent for the year. For those with assets greater than $1 billion, public funds median performance decreased by -0.73 percent for the quarter and up 7.39 percent for the last four quarters while corporate funds showed a median loss of -0.57 percent for the quarter and a gain of 8.34 percent for the year.
