Siemens and IMPAC Announce Five-Year Extension to Distribution Agreement Supporting Oncology Centers Around the World

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 5, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Siemens Medical Solutions and IMPAC Medical Systems Inc., part of the Elekta Group and a leading provider of information technology solutions for oncology care, today announced a five-year extension of their software distribution agreement, which enables Siemens to distribute its LANTIS(R) Oncology Information System, based upon IMPAC's integrated clinical and administrative management systems, to oncology practices worldwide.

Under the terms of the agreement, Siemens can package IMPAC's radiation oncology management software with its oncology treatment solutions to address the comprehensive needs of today's oncology departments, and will continue to cooperate in the development and marketing of IMPAC products.

"Our relationship with IMPAC has been in effect since 1992, and the fact that we will remain partners in oncology solutions is a testament to our willingness to work together to provide the oncology community with comprehensive solutions for clinical and administrative practice management," said Ajit Singh, PhD, president of Siemens Medical Solutions, Oncology Care Systems division. "Our current and future customers will continue to benefit from this agreement."

"IMPAC is pleased that we have extended our agreement with Siemens," stated James P. Hoey, IMPAC president and CEO, "and it is clear that both companies continue to fully embrace an open systems environment that enables our customers to pursue best-of-breed solutions. We encourage all manufacturers to do the same."

"Standards development and adoption are long overdue in radiation oncology and this partnership allows us to direct more of our development dollars towards the advancement of clinical solutions and less on maintaining compatibility with proprietary systems," noted Joseph K. Jachinowski, executive vice president of product creation for the Elekta Group.
