A Flying Snake as Pet? -- New Picture Book Promotes Education, Traditional Values and Characteristics of Animals

HOUSTON, April 22, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Since the beginning of time, people and animals have co-existed under the care of Mother Nature. Their co-existence is undeniable as they left their marks through history, literature, culture, and the arts. No matter what happens, mankind must always respect animals, especially children who need such orienting in their early years. These are the themes behind The Beautiful and Domesticated Snake: The Fairy Tale About Lene, the fascinating new picture book from the creative duo of author Hans Uli Zwar and artist Gerardo Flores Leija.

The story begins when a young boy named Jonas looks for his missing sister Madeleine. Along the way, he meets a turtle who offers to help him solve his problem. A short time afterwards, the boy finds Madeleine just resting under the shade of a tree. Just as they are about to return home, Jonas and his sister encounter more animals who are heading towards a special gathering where all kinds of animals showcase their talents, their beauty, and their unique features. As the festival goes on, a seemingly civilized snake arrives and to everyone's surprise, it introduces itself as Lene. Lene's intelligence astounds Jonas, Madeleine, and all the other animals, and what it reveals to them is bound to be unforgettable. What could it be?

Charming and vibrant from the core, The Beautiful and Domesticated Snake provides readers an educational look at animals, nature and family values. Its main concept revolves around having respect and admiration for all living creatures which should be part of childhood, and it will help children learn how to properly interact with other living creatures by observing adults. From a moral viewpoint, Lene was created to inspire a view of nature, a passion to save and enjoy our planet, and an endless love for all forms of life. As it blends reality and fiction together, this picture book will undoubtedly attract children ages 4 to 12, their parents and their teachers, and in the end, it will reunite kids with their grandparents and create a bond between children and animals. The Beautiful and Domesticated Snake: The Fairy Tale About Lene is available online at Xlibris.com and at major bookstores and libraries all over America!

About the Author

Author Gerardo Flores, a professional artist from Mexico, gave the story its final shape, and is the creator of all the illustrations. While Gerardo enjoys writing fiction and writing poetry, most of all he enjoys writing for children. He has a magical flare, bringing words to life with striking images. Each Christmas, accompanied by live music and chorus, Gerardo reads fairy tales at Simon de Betania, a Mexican orphanage for children with cancer and HIV. Author Uli Zwar, a retired architect now living in Mexico, is a sculptor and creator of various educational projects directed to his grandchildren in Germany -- such as composing soundtracks for the piano, designing dollhouse and farm complexes, and writing stories, like that of Lene, to inspire and activate the talents of their generation. The tale will be available in English, Spanish, and German.
