American Public University System Earns Regional Accreditation

Distance Learning Institution Among Nation's Largest Providers of Higher Education to U.S. Military

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., May 23, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- American Public University System, a distance learning institution that includes American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU), has earned regional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

The University System (www.apus.edu) is one of the few institutions that is both regionally and nationally accredited by federally recognized accrediting agencies. It has been nationally accredited since 1995 by the Distance Education and Training Council.

"We have always been committed to self-assessment," says Wallace E. Boston Jr., president and chief executive officer. "We're pleased the Higher Learning Commission of NCA has recognized our fulfillment of their rigorous accreditation standards and our ongoing commitment to self-evaluation and peer review."

The NCA's Higher Learning Commission oversees accreditation for 19 states and nearly 1,000 institutions and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
