WHY: Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport. WHAT: To help make it easier for travelers, AAA Texas will offer free passport photos in all of its statewide district offices on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 from 9 AM to 6 PM. Passport applications are also available in the district offices. (Please note - New passports must still be processed at an authorized passport center such as a U.S. Post Office.) WHEN: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 9 AM - 6 PM WHERE: AAA Texas District Offices (see list of locations) BACKGROUND Currently, a set of passport photos costs $7 for AAA members and $10 for non-members. "The deadline extension is a great opportunity for all travelers who did not get passports in 2006 to make sure they have one when they are ready to travel," said Mark Bell, general manager of AAA Texas. "We encourage them to take advantage of this occasion to save money if applying for a passport." Under the new requirements, airline passengers from the U.S. and Canada traveling to countries in the Western Hemisphere will be required to present a valid passport for entry and re-entry in the U.S. According to the U.S. State Department, less than 27 percent of Americans have a valid passport. This could mean real delays if travelers wait until the last minute to get a passport for their future travels. Note: Each customer is limited to one set of passport photos.Find the AAA Texas office nearest you:
