RANDOLPH, WI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 4, 2007 -- The J.W. Jung Seed Co. celebrates 100 years in
business in 2007 with the return of heirloom favorites from the company's
earliest garden seed catalogs and the
introduction of new flower, vegetable and fruit offerings, including
exclusive advance release of
roses from award-winning hybridizer Tom Carruth of Weeks Roses.
The centennial specials and thousands of other favorites are included in
Jung's 2007 spring catalog, which is now available. The new items also are
available via www.jungseed.com.
"We're excited to offer gardeners some of the classics from the earliest
J.W. Jung Seed Co. catalogs, along with a wide variety of new offerings,"
said Richard Zondag, company president and grandson of company founder J.W.
Jung.
The new rose hybrids that will be released in advance only to Jung
customers are his Falling in Love hybrid tea rose, Watercolors shrub rose,
and Wing-Ding polyantha rose.
The centennial specials include Grandpa Jung's Flower Mix, a special mix of
flower seeds originally custom blended by J.W. Jung.
Gardeners can obtain a spring 2007 catalog by calling 800-247-5864 or
through a web site request at
https://www.jungseed.com/jungsite/jungsiteOrderCatalog.aspx.
The family owned company also will mark the centennial with a variety of
special events and sales at its Randolph, Wis. headquarters and at its
garden centers. The history of the company, which J.W. Jung launched in his
parents' farmhouse in 1907, is detailed in a Jung Centennial Book. A
Centennial Cookbook offers hundreds of recipes from employees and Jung
family members, including blitz torte, which was J.W. Jung's favorite
birthday treat.
When J.W. Jung started the company, he printed 400 catalogs on a hand
press. He developed a mailing list by placing ads in magazines, "paying"
for those ads with gardening articles he would write. Today, the J.W. Jung
Seed Co. annually distributes more than 3 million catalogs throughout the
United States, and specializes in flowers, vegetables, fruits and other
trees and shrubs for northern climates.
"My grandfather built a company on the ideals of offering the best seeds
and stock for northern climates at reasonable prices and with excellent
service," Zondag said. "As we celebrate the centennial of the company he
founded, our many employees and the Jung family remain committed to his
principles."
