CINCINNATI, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 14, 2007 -- General Data Company, Inc. today announced
that its manufacturing facility has gone more than two years and amassed
more than 375,000 people-hours without a loss-time accident -- a record for
the provider of specialized labeling and identification products and
solutions. General Data's ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacturing facility
operates on a 24 hours a day/five days a week schedule, employing 90 people
in three eight-hour shifts. General
Data manufactures labeling and identification products and solutions
that are used in a variety of industries, including manufacturing,
healthcare, automotive, distribution and logistics, and military and
government.
According the U.S. Department of Labor, "nonfatal workplace injuries and
illnesses occurred at a rate of 4.6 cases per 100 equivalent full-time
workers among private industry employers in 2005." Of the 4.2 million
reported nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses, 2.2 million resulted in
days away from work, job transfer or restriction. Twenty percent of all
occupational injuries occurred in the manufacturing industry. (1)
"General Data's safety record is a true testament to our employees and our
managers who have established a culture of safety," said David Laurash,
vice president of manufacturing at General Data Company. "Given the number and types of tasks
our employees are asked to do, it is a great accomplishment for our
organization to go without a loss-time incident in more than 730 days. This
safety record comes during a time where as a company we have been
experiencing tremendous growth in terms of customers and orders. Not only
have our employees been able to meet the demands on them from a
productivity standpoint, they have been able to do so with a focus on
safety first."
The company's safety policies and initiatives are established and reviewed
by an internal safety committee, consisting of representatives from human
resources, facility management and employees. The company moved into its
current facility in Cincinnati in 1995 and develops numerous
high-performance label and identification products that are designed to
meet the needs of specialized marking and identification applications.
