Magma's QuickCap NX 3D Field Solver and Quartz RC Extraction Tools Qualified for TSMC's 45-nm Process Technology

Integrated Implementation and Extraction Ensures Accuracy and Shortens Turnaround Time

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 25, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq:LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions today announced that QuickCap(r) NX 3D field solver and Quartz(tm) RC extraction tools are qualified for TSMC's 45-nanometer (nm) process technology. With this qualification, designers can quickly and confidently migrate to the 45-nm node.

QuickCap(r) NX models 45-nm process effects such as optical proximity correction (OPC), chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) and trapezoidal wires. Through tight integration with QuickCap NX and Magma's Blast and Talus(tm) RTL-to-GDSII flows, Quartz RC provides gate-level parasitic extraction that delivers the performance required for full-chip extraction and the accuracy required to meet the technical specifications and time-to-market demands of high performance, multimillion-gate 45-nm designs.

"TSMC is committed to offering a complete ecosystem of process-proven libraries and IP, design tools and reference flows to accelerate the 45-nm technology adoption," said Kuo Wu, deputy director of design service marketing at TSMC. "Magma's QuickCap NX and Quartz RC met TSMC's stringent requirements for 45-nm that were created to ensure designers' success."

"Our customers rely on the industry-standard QuickCap NX and Quartz RC to confidently tape out their most advanced designs," said Kam Kittrell, general manager of Magma's Design Implementation Business Unit. "We're very pleased that our continued collaboration with TSMC has resulted in the validation of the accuracy and performance of these tools, and that we now have a broader offering of 45-nm tools and technologies that help designers deliver better results and faster turnaround time."

High Accuracy and Integration with Implementation Tools Ensures Silicon Success and Shortens Turnaround Time

As geometries shrink and clock frequencies and process variations increase, designers need more accurate parasitic extraction to adequately predict timing, noise and power to avoid excessive design margins and failed chips. Traditional design flows, with separate implementation and sign-off tool sets, do not deliver the convergence required for today's complex circuits.

QuickCap NX and Quartz RC provide silicon-validated accuracy and are tightly integrated with Magma's Blast and Talus implementation platforms. This integration allows designers to reach timing closure faster by utilizing sign-off-accurate extraction data during timing and noise optimization, to eliminate external sign-off iterations, to deliver correct-by-construction results and to dramatically reduce design turnaround time.
