Technology Credit Union Continues to Give Back With Donations, Volunteerism and a Community-Giving Contest

The Credit Union's Year-Long Campaign Aimed at Social Responsibility Inspires Individuals to Give More and Even Encourages Some to Start Their Own Community Project

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - September 6, 2007) - Technology Credit Union (Tech CU) announced today they have successfully collected more than 1,000 books, 354 backpacks and $225 in cash donations to help children in the Bay Area with their back-to-school needs and to help support small libraries in rural Africa. Tech CU partnered with two Bay Area nonprofits for their donation drives, the African Library Project and The Family Giving Tree.

The African Library Project works with companies like Tech CU that are willing to sponsor book drives for new or gently used children's books that can be donated to help build and improve small libraries in rural Africa. These libraries do much to improve literacy in areas where books are typically hard to come by. Donations from Tech CU will go to the Logaba Primary School in Kanye, Botswana where 405 students and 12 teachers will use them in the classroom and at home for reading. Tech CU's employees and members donated more than 1,000 books, including K-8 textbooks, encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, paperback easy readers and more. For more information about the African Library Project, go to www.africanlibraryproject.org.

Tech CU also worked with The Family Giving Tree to sponsor a back-to-school backpack drive. Employees and members donated more than 354 backpacks filled with supplies for student grades K-12 here in the Bay Area. These supplies go to low-income families and will help students start the new school year armed with tools that can help them succeed. For more information about The Family Giving Tree, go to www.familygivingtree.org.

In other community news, starting this Friday, readers of Tech CU's blog can now vote for their favorite project in Tech CU's Community Change Project: What Would You Change with $1,000?, a contest the credit union is running through their blog to encourage individuals to get more involved in the community. Voting will continue through September 14th. Tech CU will let the online community pick the top five as finalists for consideration. They'll then feature all five of them on the blog to give each the recognition they deserve, and Tech CU will choose the #1 and award $1,000 to the winner to support their project.

So far, the credit union has had some great ideas come in, everything from projects that support literacy to campaigns that raise awareness of childhood lead poisoning to individuals who want to stop global warming.
