Coupa Leverages Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to Deliver First Full-Featured, On Demand Procurement Solution for SMBs
Company Co-Founder to Speak on Development and Deployment Success at "The Amazon Start-Up Project" Event

FOSTER CITY, CA--(Marketwire - October 22, 2007) - Coupa, a pioneer in e-procurement solutions
for small and mid-size organizations (SMBs) and sponsor of the world's
leading open source e-procurement project, today announced that Coupa On
Demand, the first complete, on demand e-procurement solution designed for
SMBs, now uses the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and the Amazon
Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) as the foundation of its infrastructure.
Additionally, Coupa's vice president of product and co-founder, Noah
Eisner, will showcase the Coupa solution today in San Diego at "The Amazon
Start-Up Project" event. Eisner's presentation will discuss how Coupa is
able to deliver the most affordable e-procurement solution in its class
through the use of Amazon Web Services.
Coupa offers an on demand e-procurement solution for SMBs that automates
the entire purchasing process -- from requisition, approval, and purchase
order creation to RFQs, quotations, receiving, inventory, and invoicing.
Taking a fundamentally different approach to e-procurement software, Coupa
has been able to bring an enterprise-class, procure-to-pay solution to
market at an affordable price because of its commitment to using the latest
technologies and components available.
Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing companies to pay
only for capacity that they actually use. The rapidly resizable
"in-the-cloud" compute capacity of Amazon EC2 offers organizations a proven
computing environment that's an attractive alternative to options such as
colocated, managed, or dedicated hosting, which are expensive and require
lengthy server deployments. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services
interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any
time, from anywhere on the web.
By basing its new Software as a Service (SaaS) offering on Amazon Web
Services, Coupa has been able to break through price barriers that have
historically prevented SMBs from realizing the benefits of an e-procurement
system. Coupa On Demand offers SMBs a robust, feature-rich e-procurement
solution with a starting price point of $2,495 for ten users --
approximately one tenth the cost of competitive products. Additionally,
Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3 provide Coupa On Demand customers with rapid
on-boarding and continuous availability.
"The classic enterprise software model of proprietary tools, long release
cycles, and big license deals is cost-prohibitive for most SMBs," said
Eisner. "Amazon Web Services have helped Coupa smash that model. The
transparent infrastructure enables Coupa to bring customers up quickly,
scale fast to meet demand, and let prospects try before they buy. And of
course, it has made it possible for us to create a very affordable
subscription model."
"We're excited to see companies like Coupa using Amazon Web Services to
expand the options that small and medium businesses have," said Steve
Rabuchin, director of developer relations for Amazon Web Services. "Such
innovation really levels the playing field for small and medium businesses
that are trying to grow but are often resource constrained."
Hosted in start-up "hot spots" around the country, "The Start-Up Project"
is a series of half-day events that feature fast-growing companies and
their use of Amazon Web Services. Attendees learn about how Amazon Web
Services empower entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable growth.
Eisner's presentation on October 22 in San Diego will showcase the role of
Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3 in the delivery of Coupa On Demand, which was also
announced today. For more event details, please see
