AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - January 11, 2008) - Gas prices continued rising in the last week and are now within a dime of their all-time records in many areas of Texas, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The statewide average, at $2.976, posted a weekly increase of five cents and is now within 10 cents of the all-time record price of $3.085 reached last May. The national average is $3.10 a gallon, also up five cents from last week and 13 cents shy of the all-time record of $3.23.

"Texas is one of the few states that still has a statewide price average under $3 a gallon," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "Record oil prices continue to drive these increases throughout Texas and nationwide."

El Paso has the lowest average on the list at $2.83 a gallon -- up three cents. Texarkana, still the only Texas city with a price average above $3, has the highest price at $3.05 a gallon -- up three cents from last week.
