Coordinate Metrology Society Announces Their CMSC Keynote Speaker Jon Cowart of NASA Kennedy Space Center; Richard Childress Racing Selected for CMSC Educational Tour

Precision Measurement Professionals Gather in Concord, NC From July 21 - 25, 2008

CONCORD, N.C., April 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Coordinate Metrology Society, the eminent membership association for measurement professionals, today announced Mr. Jon Cowart, NASA Kennedy Space Center, will be the Keynote Speaker for the 24th Annual Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) from July 21-25, 2008 at the new Embassy Suites overlooking Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. While visiting the heart of NASCAR country, the conference will also feature an Educational Tour at the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) complex. This 5-day event is the only North American conference that uniquely serves professional and novice users of portable 3D coordinate measurement technology.

Keynote Speaker Jon Coward of the NASA Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Program will present "From Columbia to Constellation: How Laser Scanning is Being Used". Mr. Cowart will discuss the contribution of laser scanning and imagery techniques that were important to the Kennedy Space Center's Columbia reconstruction effort. Scanning and survey techniques play an important role both on-orbit to safeguard the Shuttle and at KSC as they prepare to reconfigure the interior of the Vehicle Assembly Building to support the new Ares rockets set to debut in 2009. Cowart has a long distinguished career with NASA and the U.S. Air Force. He is the Manager of the Orbiter Project Office at KSC representing the Orbiter Project Office at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

The 2008 Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference will also feature an exciting educational tour at the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) complex. Attendees will get to tour the entire enterprise from the Engine, Chassis, and Fabrication Shops to the Childress Vineyards. A highlight of the tour will be the RCR Racing Museum. Inside this 47,000 sq. ft. building, there are 47 race vehicles and a tractor-trailer transporter rig. Sixteen video screens showcase key victories in RCR history, and informational pieces hosted by Richard Childress and RCR's managerial staff. Numerous displays, memorabilia and photographs can be found throughout the facility, including all six NASCAR Winston Cup championship banners and all six NASCAR Winston Cup championship owner's trophies. Richard Childress Racing has earned nearly 180 victories and 11 NASCAR championships, including the 2007 NASCAR Nationwide Series owners' point title and six in the Cup Series with the legendary Dale Earnhardt.

The CMSC is comprised of white papers presented by expert users from leading companies and universities, informative workshops, user group meetings, and a large Exhibitor Hall showcasing portable coordinate measurement systems (PCMMs), software, accessories, peripherals, inspection and measurement service providers. PCMM technology exhibited at the conference includes industrial photogrammetry solutions, laser trackers, laser radars, GPS systems, laser scanners, laser projection systems, articulating arms, theodolites and more. More than forty exhibitors participated at the 2007 conference.
