AAA Texas: Supplies You'll Need to Include in Vehicles During Evacuation

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - September 11, 2008) - If you're one of the tens of thousands of Texans being evacuated or facing that possibility, AAA Texas reminds citizens in the path of Hurricane Ike to remember to gather some supplies and helpful items for the family vehicles when you are leaving your home.

"Families are often busy preparing emergency supply kits for their home and securing other items of importance before a storm; they can forget to also include items of importance in their vehicles," AAA spokesman Dan Ronan said.

AAA Texas suggests including the following items in the car:

-- State and local maps
-- Cell phone car charger
-- Fully equipped first aid kit
-- First aid manual
-- Prescription medicine
-- Bottled water
-- Non-perishable foods
-- Extra clothes and shoes
-- Tissues, pre-moistened towels, and toiletries
-- Blanket or sleeping bag
-- Flashlight with extra batteries and bulb
-- Pocket radio and extra batteries
-- Small tool kit (screwdriver, pliers, wire, pocket knife, can opener,
    duct tape)

In situations such as hurricanes, ATM machines occasionally run low on cash. AAA Texas reminds motorists, before you go on the road, keep an adequate supply of cash on hand, keep gas tanks full during hurricane season, and NEVER carry spare gas in the trunk.
