Reon(TM) Starch-Based Ingredients Provide Effective, Sustainable Fluid Management Solutions for Industrial Products
| Source: Absorbent Technologies, Inc.
BEAVERTON, OR--(Marketwire - December 16, 2008) - Industrial product engineers seeking
high-quality, sustainable products now have access to a superabsorbent
ingredient made from corn starch.
Marketed under the name Reon™, the superabsorbent is capable of
retaining 500 times its weight in water, and is designed to manage water
and fluids in a wide range of industrial products and applications. Uses
for Reon are being expanded by Absorbent Technologies, Inc. (ATI), a
private company that has taken global leadership in developing sustainable
starch-based superabsorbent polymers. The company recently enlarged its
Albany, Ore. plant to prepare for growth in industrial applications.
"Our new starch-based superabsorbent offers product designers the twin
benefits of performing better than the older synthetic polymers while also
being sustainable," said David Westlund, Reon product manager. "Because
Reon is sustainable, more functional and safe, and biodegrades quickly
after its useful life, we believe this superior starch-based polymer will
replace millions of pounds of petroleum-based polymers as green-thinking
companies adopt our better product."
With current customers using Reon in dust abatement, image printing,
bandages, and batteries, ATI is also seeing interest in medicine,
pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, diapers, construction products, fire
suppression, fuel filters, and a host of other uses.
According to Westlund, Reon can be made in a variety of granule sizes and
powders. "We can formulate with either potassium or sodium, and can adjust
the pH and color to meet exacting standards. If you have a need, we can
customize the right version for you."
