Morris, Manning & Martin Expands in D.C. Adding Intellectual Property Litigator

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - January 6, 2009) - Robert A. Gutkin, formerly a partner with Sutherland, has joined Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Gutkin's practice is focused on intellectual property litigation.

Mr. Gutkin's litigation background will add tremendous support to the office's intellectual property capabilities. The firm recently added partners Ping Wang, M.D. and Chris Raimund to the firm's intellectual property practice in Washington. The firm now counts more than twenty intellectual property lawyers and technical specialists amongst its Washington and Atlanta offices.

Mr. Gutkin's work on intellectual property matters includes the representation of clients in patent infringement cases on technologies as diverse as surgical lasers, cryogenic devices, magnetic resonance imaging equipment, cellular technology, fiber optics, catalytic converters, lubricants for dental handpieces, gravity feed displays and smart card manufacturing. He has tried patent infringement cases on complex technology before juries, where it was critical to simplify the presentation of issues of law and technology. Mr. Gutkin also regularly represents clients on matters involving trademark, copyright and unfair competition cases.

Mr. Gutkin has been a faculty participant with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and currently serves as a committee member in the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). He has both lectured and written articles on a variety of intellectual property topics.

Mr. Gutkin received his J.D. in 1985 from the University of California, School of Law, Davis, his M.A. in 1982 from the University of Chicago, and his B.A. in 1980 from Brandeis University.
