ConnectInPrivate.com Builds Online Privacy Service on Vyatta

Vyatta Delivers High-Performance Routing and VPN for Network Service Provider

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - September 15, 2009) - Vyatta, the leader in open networking and network virtualization, today announced that its open routing and security solutions have been deployed by ConnectInPrivate.com, which offers an Internet privacy service that protects personal data communications on computers and mobile devices. ConnectInPrivate.com is deploying Vyatta 2502 appliances at the core of its hosted network service business as routers and high-performance VPN concentrators in data centers located in Canada and Panama.

ConnectInPrivate.com is using Vyatta for VPN tunneling to help customers protect their privacy and their data as they access the Internet via their computers, iPhones, and Windows Mobile devices. The company considered building the service using an SSL VPN solution from Juniper Networks, but expensive licensing was going to seriously limit the company's ability to scale and make its service more expensive. The cost of a Cisco-based ASA firewall solution was also prohibitive. After performing tests with the community version of Vyatta's routing and firewall software, ConnectInPrivate.com opted to standardize on the Vyatta 2502 appliance.

"For routing and VPN tunneling, when we look at the cost of putting a customer on the network, we just can't do better than Vyatta," said Bill Montgomery, project manager at ConnectInPrivate.com. "The 2502 appliance will give us very cost-effective scaling, fast installations as we ramp up, and excellent functionality. Vyatta is at the heart of our network and our network is our business."

Vyatta's 2502 appliance delivers a pre-integrated open-software and standard hardware solution in a 1U rack mount form factor. Pre-integration means ConnectInPrivate.com can deploy a new appliance in minutes, and the standard IPSec VPN implementation ensures painless connectivity from thousands of computers and mobile devices per appliance.

"Companies building service businesses face a scalability Catch-22: the greater their success, the more they can't afford to succeed," said Dave Roberts, vice-president of strategy at Vyatta. "Expensive network and security infrastructure gear from proprietary companies like Cisco eats away at the bottom line and can make investors question the viability of an otherwise brilliant business model. But as companies like ConnectInPrivate.com have discovered, network scalability is easy to solve with a simple, powerful, and highly scalable solution from Vyatta."

Vyatta runs on standard x86 hardware and delivers a full set of networking features that allow customers to connect, protect, virtualize, and optimize their networks, improving performance, reducing costs, and increasing manageability and flexibility compared to proprietary networking solutions. Vyatta has been deployed by hundreds of customers worldwide in both virtual and non-virtual environments.
