Personal Communications Devices and Cricket Communications Launch the UM185C, CDMA USB Modem

Avanquest Broadband Connectivity Management Solution Provides Automated Sign-On, Text Message Functionality, Data Plan Management Tools on MAC or PC

HAUPPAUGE, NY and DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - October 7, 2009) - Personal Communications Devices, LLC (PCD), today announced the launch of the UM185C, a CDMA 3G USB modem now available through Cricket Communications. The UM185C will be embedded with Avanquest's 3G Connection Manager, as a result of a licensing agreement with PCD and Avanquest Software, a leading global software developer and publisher.

The UM185C was developed and designed for Cricket Communications by PCD with Cricket wireless subscribers in mind. The powerful yet pocket-size UM185C measures 2.8" (h) x 1.3" (w) x 0.6" (d) and weighs only 1.1 ounces. This CDMA Tri-Band (800/1900/AWS) device offers fast, seamless mobile Internet connectivity, making downloading, uploading, storing and sending files a breeze.

The UM185C has 512 Mbit Flash / 256 Mbit RAM memory and has multilingual (English, Spanish) capability. Compatible with PCs that run Windows® 2000, XP or Vista or Macs that run Mac OS X (10.4.11+) and (10.5+), the UM185C provides direct access to company networks, email servers and the Internet.

Avanquest's 3G Connection Manager is embedded in PCD's UM185C USB modem. The software, which supports both MAC OS and PC, auto-launches a data connection when the USB device is inserted in the user's laptop and allows subscribers to effectively manage pre-paid data plans.

Going beyond traditional wireless Internet connectivity, 3G Connection Manager enables users to send and receive text messages through a text message inbox by which they can cut, copy, and paste text messages and to preview or print out the message. Through an easy-to-read Data Connection Log, the software also enables users to monitor data connections, network speeds, connection duration and much more. Users can choose an option to disconnect the Internet connection after a specific amount of time or after a specific amount of data has been exchanged.

"The UM185C is a perfect fit for on-the-go individuals looking for the convenience of total wireless connectivity, and more, without hunting for WiFi," said Philip Christopher, the president and CEO of PCD. "We are excited to be working with these two industry leaders on this new device and look forward to bringing more customized devices to market, meeting both the consumer and the carrier's needs."

"We're extremely excited that PCD has selected us to provide a connectivity solution that will deliver an optimal broadband wireless data experience to Cricket's CDMA network subscribers," said David Wright, president of Avanquest Software's OEM division, headquartered in Denver. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to help one of the pioneering companies in the mobility field maintain their long-standing leadership providing state-of-the-art products and solutions."

The Cricket UM185C modem is available now at Cricket retail stores, through dealers and online for $139. As part of a limited time introductory offer, the modem is available for free after an $89 instant savings and $50 Visa mail-in reward card offer. PCD will be displaying the Cricket UM185C modem during the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2009 in San Diego, October 7-9, at PCD's booth (#401).
