Enterprise Use of Renewable Energy to Increase, According to Environmental Leader Research

Benchmarking Survey, Interviews, Implementation Roadmap and State Capsules Provide Companies With Tools Needed to Make Renewable Energy Decisions

FORT COLLINS, CO--(Marketwire - March 16, 2010) -  About half of companies that currently do not generate or buy renewable energy are considering options to do so, according to a newly-released study. Also, a large percentage of companies are exploring the expansion of renewable energy programs already in place. These enterprises that are investigating options are in addition to substantial percentages of companies that have already decided to move forward with renewable energy expansion or first-time implementation.

The report, "Enterprise Renewable Energy Adoption Survey: Benchmarking Onsite Renewable Energy Generation, Purchasing and REC Buying," is the fruit of a series of surveys and interviews conducted by daily trade publications Environmental Leader and Retailer Daily.

"Retailers seem more inclined than other industries to act quickly on implementing renewable energy programs," says Dan Berthiaume, study co-author. "Twenty-five percent of retailers surveyed, that are not currently using renewable energy, plan to incorporate it within one year, compared with 12% of enterprises in general."

The report presents a comprehensive survey on corporate renewable energy use including: the ROI of renewable energy programs, how many corporations are using renewable energy, what kinds, how much and where renewable energy is being used, the percentage of renewable energy in relation to conventional energy use, how much companies spend on renewable energy and renewable energy plans for the next five years.

The 150+ page report includes over 40 charts, in-depth interview-based case studies with JCPenney, USPS, White Wave, Costco, UPS, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, Half Price Books and Green Mountain Coffee explaining the what, why and how of starting a enterprise renewable energy program, a renewable energy implementation roadmap and state capsules of energy prices and resource availability.

"Survey takers point to finance as the most important factor in the decision to enact a renewable energy program," says study co-author Lance Jungmeyer, "Adoption by competition, as well as branding, are not strong drivers."
