FilterForGood Hits the Road With Ben Harper & Relentless7 for Campus Consciousness Tour

In Honor of Earth Month, FilterForGood Will Visit College Campuses to Encourage Students to Go Bottled Water Free

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwire - April 7, 2010) -  In celebration of Earth Month, FilterForGood®, a partnership between Brita® and Nalgene® to help reduce bottled water waste, is hitting the road with Ben Harper and Relentless7 on the 5th annual Campus Consciousness Tour. Half rock tour, half environmental campaign, the Campus Consciousness Tour aims to inspire and activate students in an electric atmosphere, while leaving a positive impact on each community.

FilterForGood will help spread the message about reducing bottled water waste and motivate students to take action on campus. Proceeds from the tour will benefit student groups at each of the college campuses as well as the Surfrider Foundation.

FilterForGood recently teamed up with the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots organization created to promote the importance of clean water, for a national campaign. To help students test their knowledge about the importance of water, FilterForGood and Surfrider created a "Do you know your H20?" quiz with Surfrider that can be taken on FilterForGood's Facebook page. FilterForGood and Surfrider hope to educate people about how all water is connected and precious.

"It's great to be able to shine some light onto the awesome work that is being done by everyone on the Campus Consciousness Tour. We're so glad to be a part of it, and to do our part to spread the good word," said Ben Harper, GRAMMY-award winning artist.

Each tour stop will begin with on-campus activities in the Eco-Village to help students learn how making small changes can make a big difference for the environment, like taking the FilterForGood pledge to drink filtered water in a reusable bottle instead of bottled water. Each day will end with a performance by Ben Harper and Relentless7. In addition to educating and mobilizing students, the tour also includes many greening elements and plans to have a minimal environmental impact.

Additionally, at each tour stop, FilterForGood will work with tour organizers Reverb, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to identify local student groups who are doing their part to make a difference at their school and reward them with donations to help fund their projects.

FilterForGood
Each year, Americans purchase billions of plastic water bottles. Aside from the environmental impact of all that waste, Americans are spending a great deal on bottled water. Brita partnered with Nalgene to launch the FilterForGood campaign, which encourages people to reduce their bottled water waste by switching to reusable bottles filled with filtered water. Since the campaign launched in 2007, more than 180,000 people have taken the pledge to reduce their bottled water waste, keeping an estimated 189 million disposable bottles out of landfills.
