Mike Kotarski Joins the Avascent Group

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - April 16, 2010) -  Leading strategy and management consulting firm The Avascent Group today welcomed Mike Kotarski as a Principal with the firm. "We are excited to have Mike join the leadership team at Avascent," said president Steve Irwin. "His demonstrated expertise in defense, civilian, and intelligence M&A and hands-on experience in strategic planning and business process consulting significantly strengthens our capabilities."

Prior to joining Avascent, Mr. Kotarski was a Managing Director at CSP Associates, Inc. where he led M&A strategy and due diligence efforts for both private equity and corporate buyers, constituting more than $10B in client-sponsored acquisitions. He also managed strategy and business planning efforts for several global defense prime contractors and assisted the Office of the Secretary of Defense in budgeting and industrial policy planning efforts in such areas as secure microelectronics supply.

"In his M&A work and in previous strategy, business development and financial leadership roles at General Dynamics, Mike has developed a unique and highly valuable combination of functional skills and domain knowledge that substantially augment the services Avascent can offer our growing client base," Irwin added. Mr. Kotarski has a particularly strong background in three key federal markets: IT and technical services, soldier systems, and communications and electronics. He also brings strong operations consulting capabilities, with expertise in budgeting, cost analysis, benchmarking, operational improvement, functional re-design and restructuring.

"I am thrilled to be a member of the team at Avascent," said Kotarski. "The firm's culture, diversified industry presence and deep bench of talent position it for strong continued growth. Its reputation for rigorous analysis and its approach to long-term advisory partnerships with industry are unrivalled."

Mr. Kotarski holds a BA in Political Science from Duke, an MBA from Babson College and executive education credentials from the Brookings Institute and Harvard Business School. He has worked closely with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on industrial base initiatives and is an active member of AFCEA International and the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG). He has provided pro-bono advisory services to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City in Boston, MA and is an avid runner and triathlete in support of fundraising efforts for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Children's Hospital Boston.
