Nationally Recognized Criminal & Civil Enforcement Team Joins Financial Services Law Firm, BuckleySandler

David S. Krakoff and Christopher F. Regan Bring Added Depth to Firm's Growing White Collar Litigation & Enforcement Practice

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) -  BuckleySandler, a leading financial services and criminal & civil enforcement defense law firm based in Washington, DC, announced that David S. Krakoff, former co-leader of Mayer Brown's White Collar Litigation Practice, and partner Christopher F. Regan of Mayer Brown, have joined the firm as partners.

Krakoff and Regan's arrival follows that of noted enforcement and appellate litigator, Sam Buffone, further establishing BuckleySandler as a leading national criminal and civil enforcement practice, ideally situated to fully meet the needs of their financial services and corporate clients, as well as their senior executives who are subject to government investigation and enforcement.

"As financial services and other corporate entities continue to grapple with increased scrutiny and regulations, it is important for our clients to have a team working on their behalf with experience in virtually every major federal government criminal prosecution initiative over the past four decades," stated Andrew L. Sandler, Co-Chair of BuckleySandler. "David and Chris also bring in-depth knowledge and understanding of complex civil litigation and enforcement matters to further strengthen our ability to assist clients in these matters."

With this addition, BuckleySandler has continued to add to its team of financial service litigation and enforcement attorneys. The firm's lawyers have experience defending companies and their executives in major federal criminal prosecution initiatives beginning with the ABSCAM cases in the late 1970s and continuing through the defense contractor and savings & loan crisis prosecutions and Congressional investigations of the 1980s and 1990s; the Enron investigations and prosecutions in 2001; and the current financial crimes enforcement investigations.

"The addition of David and Chris gives our firm even more experience and capability in major white collar criminal matters, as well as additional expertise in handling multi-faceted investigations that will better enable us to help our clients navigate the increasingly difficult enforcement challenges that confront financial institutions today," noted Jeremiah S. Buckley, Co-Chair of BuckleySandler.

With more than 30 years experience representing individual and corporate clients in high-stakes criminal and complex civil litigation and enforcement cases throughout the country, Krakoff's practice spans a variety of SEC enforcement, grand jury and trial matters, audit committee representations, securities class actions, and cases involving accounting fraud, tax, public corruption, antitrust, healthcare, export control, trade secrets and environmental matters. He also has an active international practice, with an emphasis on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance and investigation work. Most recently, he obtained an acquittal on all counts for a senior executive of W.R. Grace & Co. in a lengthy federal environmental crimes trial in Montana.

Regan represents individual and corporate clients in complex criminal cases and related civil and administrative matters at the federal and state levels. His broad range of experience includes SEC enforcement proceedings, Federal Housing Finance Authority enforcement litigation, shareholder litigation, grand jury investigations and internal investigations. He regularly counsels clients on subjects including tax and accounting fraud, mail and wire fraud, trade secrets, FCPA and a wide array of environmental issues.

Krakoff and Regan noted they were both excited to join BuckleySandler and "expand its already substantial government enforcement and complex civil litigation practice, as well as join our financial fraud, international and environmental defense practice with the financial services practice that is at the core of BuckleySandler."
