Payroll Professionals Want Accurate Time Tracking Solutions, According to CyberShift Trendline Survey

Automated Time and Attendance Processes Can Improve Payroll Accuracy, Overall Business Success

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - October 11, 2010) -  Nearly one-quarter of payroll professionals say that accurate time tracking data would make their jobs easier, according to results from the 2010 CyberShift APA Trendline Survey, "It's About Time." Developed by CyberShift, a global provider of workforce management and expense management software and services, the survey explored the opinions of more than 1,200 American Payroll Association (APA) members on topics ranging from time and attendance challenges to the use of a contingent workforce and the proposed H.R. 2110: Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Fairness and Simplification Act.

The survey results, which will be included in the August / September issue of the APA's PAYTECH magazine, also show that nearly 50 percent of respondents find it challenging to capture accurate and timely data for absence, leave, vacation and payroll adjustments. Automating workforce management processes can significantly improve business efficiency by simplifying daily time and attendance management activities for all of the members of a workforce. By providing visibility into workforce movement and metrics, an automated system can monitor a workforce's time and attendance, helping to ensure that employee scheduling across a company is aligned with business goals.

"It may surprise people, but many businesses are still using laborious manual processes to schedule, deploy and track the time and attendance of their workforce. Not only is manual tracking cumbersome and time consuming, but it also can impede decisions regarding workforce deployment and lead to compromised payroll accuracy. An automated workforce management solution can streamline these processes and ultimately improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of an organization," stated Morné P. Swart, CyberShift's vice president of product management.

The APA members who responded to the Trendline survey varied greatly in company size as well as industry type. Nearly 32 percent of respondents work at organizations employing less than 500 people; 18.1 percent work at organizations with 500 to 1,000 people; 28.8 percent work at organizations with 1,001 to 5,000 people; 9 percent work at organizations with 5,001 to 10,000 people; and 12.1 percent work at organizations with more than 10,000 people. More than 16 percent of the payroll professionals surveyed represented the manufacturing sector, with the healthcare (14.3 percent), not-for-profit (7.1 percent), local government (6.1 percent) and retail (4.9 percent) sectors rounding out the top five responding industries.
