Cisco and Cable Thai Holdings Collaborate Towards Digital Future

BANGKOK, THAILAND--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) - Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that Cable Thai Holdings, a leading service provider that brings together 300 cable operators in Thailand, has installed Cisco® end-to-end switched digital video solutions for a world-class content-delivery system as it gears up for continued innovation in video and Internet Protocol technologies.

"We're excited to be working with Cisco, as it is a globally recognized brand that stands for quality, and with our business moving into the digital space, Cisco is able to provide an infrastructure that allows us to combine all the content from various channels and send it to cable operators, reducing their content cost and helping to ensure that it is scalable and future-ready," said Kasam Inkaew, president, Cable Thai Holdings Plc.

Cisco's end-to-end video-content-delivery solution enhances the compression of the video signal into a digital format and transmits it via satellite from a central location in Bangkok to local cable television operators around the country. The platform provides access to authorized cable operators and is designed to be ready for high-definition streams while allowing for the flexibility to increase channels and extend to direct-to-home service for areas not serviced by the cable networks.

"Technology and the network have the power to change the way we live, work, play and learn. With this implementation Cable Thai Holdings, as the market leader in Thailand, can extend its leadership by delivering a high-quality media experience using new technologies to deliver the next-generation in content to its consumer base while expanding its revenue opportunities," said Tatchapol Poshyanonoda, managing director of Cisco in Thailand.

In the broadcast world, optimizing bandwidth in the distribution channel is of utmost importance. Cisco MPEG compression is designed to deliver high-quality MPEG video while using limited bandwidth either in constant or variable bit-rate modes. The use of Cisco IP-based compression system and closed-loop statistical multiplexing will allow Cable Thai Holdings to deliver clean, sharp pictures.

According to Cisco's Visual Networking Index, video will continue to exceed 91 percent of global consumer traffic by 2014, and 3-D and HD Internet video will make up 46 percent of consumer Internet video traffic.
