Independent Analyst Report Lauds Stratus Technologies' Support for Hyper-V

Unique Architecture, Industry Standard Components Lowers Cost, Complexity of Virtualizing Mission-Critical Workloads

MAYNARD, MA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2010) - A recent report issued by technology acquisition consultants The Clipper Group, Inc. highlights Stratus Technologies' support for Microsoft Hyper-V as a key mechanism for lowering the cost and complexity for virtualizing mission-critical business applications. Stratus recently announced support for Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization technology across its full line of fault tolerant Stratus® ftServer® systems.

The independently published Clipper report, "Stratus Raises Hyper-V Virtualization to Fault Tolerance for the Data Center" notes the growing need for uptime assurance in the face of an increasing reliance on highly-consolidated, virtualized environments. With so much riding on individual machines, the report says, having a system that will "almost" never fail is not good enough for an increasing number of workloads and applications.

"By adding Hyper-V to their virtualization options, Stratus provides seamless and transparent integration of virtualization for fault-tolerant Windows applications. When push comes to shove, an ftServer enables the IT staff to sleep at night, knowing that their very-critical applications receive the proper level of care," concludes the report.

Even for IT groups responsible for mission-critical workloads, cost is increasingly a concern. ftServer systems employ industry standard components in what the report calls a "unique and innovative" architectural approach that "has reduced the initial acquisition cost as well, taking the sting out of the decision making process."

According to Rye, NH-based Clipper Group, the Stratus ftServer architecture "uses industry-standard technology and components, making the servers cost-effective to manufacture and deploy, and easy to upgrade as enhancements and improved components become available." Also, unlike other approaches to improved uptime such as clustering, "(a)ll ftServers run standard applications absolutely unchanged," the report states, further enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the Stratus offerings.

In addition to Hyper-V support on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, the ftServer line also supports VMware vSphere 4 virtualization software and Red Hat Enterprise Linux applications.
