EPA Recognizes Bosch With 2011 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Bosch home appliances the 2011 ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence Award. The award recognizes Bosch for its continued contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing water- and energy-efficient appliances and educating consumers on the benefits of the ENERGY STAR program. Bosch's accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2011.

"As a company committed to sustainability, we are constantly challenged to engineer the best in appliance efficiency," said John Farley, senior brand manager, Bosch home appliances. "Earning the Sustained Excellence Award is a tremendous honor as it recognizes our commitment to efficiency through the ENERGY STAR specification program."

Bosch's commitment to appliance efficiency includes being the only US appliance manufacturer with 100 percent of its major appliances ENERGY STAR qualified -- that is 48 dishwasher, clothes washer and refrigerator models by Bosch for appliance shoppers to choose from. The ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award also recognizes Bosch engineering accomplishments including:

  • Exceeding federal energy standards in dishwashers by an average of 38% and up to 97%;
  • Offering the most water-efficient dishwasher in the US -- the 800 Plus uses as little as 1.57 gallons of water per cycle;
  • Improving the energy use of all its 27" washers. With the launch of Vision, Bosch's most efficient 27" washer model achieved an energy use of just 120 kWh/year;
  • Reducing energy consumption in its manufacturing facilities by 14 percent since 2005.

"Bosch home appliances has earned the EPA's highest ENERGY STAR award -- the 2011 Sustained Excellence Award," said Elizabeth Craig, Acting Director of EPA's Office of Atmospheric Programs. "Bosch's long term leadership and commitment to energy efficiency demonstrates the types of accomplishments that we can all achieve in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting our global environment. We look forward to their continued partnership and leadership."

About ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants associated with energy use. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 kinds of products as well as new homes and buildings. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $18 billion on their utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas equivalent to those of 34 million cars. Products, homes and buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR prevent emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. For more information, go to energystar.gov.
