GERRY WEBER International AG gains MDAX listing
Shares in GERRY WEBER International AG, which have so far been listed in
the SDAX index, will be included in Deutsche Börse's MDAX index with effect
from 29 June 2011. This was today announced by Deutsche Börse. GERRY WEBER
International AG will replace Tognum AG, whose free float dropped below the
10 percent limit following last week's announcement of the takeover by
Daimler and Rolls-Royce.
Gerhard Weber, CEO of GERRY WEBER International AG, expressed his
satisfaction with the promotion to the higher index. 'When the opportunity
of this unscheduled index adjustment arose, we were the first in line for
promotion thanks to our good market capitalisation and the greatly improved
trading volume in our shares. We expect our shares to become even more
attractive to investors as a result of this upgrade. We have thus reached
an important corporate objective set for the current financial year. Being
listed in the MDAX index will increase our overall attractiveness to the
capital markets and give us access to new investor groups. Aside from
expanding our commercial operations to new foreign markets, we also want to
attract more attention from foreign investors. The MDAX is the perfect
platform to present GERRY WEBER even more easily, quickly, directly and
transparently at important financial centres. Expertise, the courage to
implement innovative changes and its openness to new ideas have taken the
GERRY WEBER Group forward in the past. Today's announcement by Deutsche
Börse is a vindication of our business model and of a successful approach
which we will continue with determination.'
The GERRY WEBER share made 48th and 53rd place, respectively, in the
'market capitalisation' and 'trading volume' categories of the relevant
ranking (May 2011). The share owes its rise to the MDAX primarily to the
recent sharp increase in market capitalisation to roughly EUR 1 billion,
making GERRY WEBER one of Germany's top 80 listed companies. Following the
IPO in 1989, this marks another milestone in the extremely successful
history of the company. The listing in the MDAX aptly reflects GERRY
WEBER's position as a leading fashion and lifestyle company with a global
presence. GERRY WEBER will be the second fashion share in the MDAX besides
HUGO BOSS AG.
In the past years, GERRY WEBER International AG repeatedly hit new sales
and earnings records and gave its shareholders a share in this excellent
performance. The GERRY WEBER Group is excellently positioned for the future
and will continue to grow at double-digit rates with revenues expected to
come in at approx. EUR 700 million for the financial year 2010/11. Besides
its own Retail activities, which are the main growth driver, the company
will also push ahead its international expansion, primarily in Asia, North
America and the Middle East as well as in France, Switzerland, Poland and
Italy.
