Santa Maria, California, Sept. 19, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- INC Magazine has once again included Hardy Diagnostics in their list of the 5,000 fastest growing private companies in America.

Hardy Diagnostics specializes in the manufacture and design of culture media used to detect and identify microorganisms of clinical and industrial significance; such as, E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Candida, Staph, and Strep.  The culture media is manufactured both in the prepared (ready-to-use) format consisting of petri plates, tubes, and bottles; and in the dehydrated (powdered) format. The company is also known for it many innovative and rapid approaches to traditional microbiology, such as its line of chromogenic media that assists the microbiologist in making an identifcation based on the colony color of the microorganism.

Hardy Diagnostics has been serving its customers in the laboratory for 31 years. The President, Jay Hardy, formerly a Clinical Laboratory Scientist who trained at a regional medical center in California, founded the company in 1980.

The company now employs 180 workers and maintains eight remote distribution centers across the country. In addition, over 40 foreign distributors make up Hardy’s exporting program.

Hardy Diagnostics is the third largest company in the culture media market and it is the only one headquartered in the Western United States. Over 3,500 products for microbiology testing are manufactured at its Santa Maria headquarters. Hardy's product line also includes products from 80 other manufacturers: for a total of 12,000 laboratory supply items.

A recently developed full service e-commerce program facilitates 24/7 customer service. The company services over 6,000 laboratories in the health care, pharmaceutical, research, water, and food processing industries.

Hardy Diagnostics is an "Open Book Management" company, allowing all co-workers to follow the financial progress of the organization. In addition, a robust profit sharing program stimulates employee motivation and participation.

For its commitment to living healthy lifestyles, the American Heart Association has awarded Hardy with the "Fit Friendly Business" certification for the last two years. Hardy was the first business in the Central Coast area to earn such an award. In addition, the State of California has designated Hardy as a "California Fit Business."

INC Magazine has included Hardy Diagnostics for the last three years in its "INC 5000" list of America’s fastest growing private companies. The company was also recognized for its accomplishments in 2011 as the "Business of the Year" by the Santa Maria Valley chamber of Commerce.
