Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan Endorses Brian C. Johnson for 46th Assembly Seat

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Educator and candidate for the newly drawn 46th Assembly District, Brian C. Johnson, announced a key endorsement today in his bid to represent the new 46th AD. Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan threw his support behind Johnson.

Former Mayor Riordan was vocal in his support for Johnson, saying, "Brian has spent his career building consensus and fostering public-private partnerships. He has served as a champion for California families by bringing government and business together to find ways to create stronger schools and invest more wisely in California's future. We need more elected officials like Brian. He is one of the most brilliant young men I've ever met."

"I am honored and humbled to have the support of Richard Riordan," said Johnson. "Mayor Riordan has fought tirelessly for the people of Los Angeles, and he is a leader that the residents of the new 46th District trust. Having his support is crucial to my campaign."

Even with his commanding early fundraising advantage, Johnson's campaign reflects his commitment to remain firmly rooted in the community. "This is a grassroots effort," Johnson explained. "We have seen tremendous support from neighborhood councils, homeowner groups, and PTA members. This campaign has always been about being a voice for residents of the 46th district, and I will fight for those residents."

Brian C. Johnson is the former Executive Director of Teach for America in Los Angeles and the current Executive Director of the Larchmont Charter Schools, a network of high-performing and racially and socio-economically diverse public schools in Los Angeles.
