Study of Flash Games Market by Mochi Media Shows Maturing Industry Across Geographic, Monetization and Platform Categories; Mochi Media Announces 2012 Flash Gaming Summit Dates

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 20, 2011) - Today, Mochi Media announced the results of the 2011 Flash Games Market Survey, a comprehensive survey of the developers and website owners who comprise the fast-growing Flash games industry. The 2011 Flash Games Market Survey was conducted by Mochi Media in partnership with Adobe and FlashGameLicense.com, and surveyed 1075 Flash game developers and publishers. The study releases data on development platforms, as well as industry benchmark data around the demographics, location and economics of Flash game developers and publishers.

Additionally, the results from the survey support the theme of Flash Gaming Summit 2012: Maximize Your Game. Presented by Mochi Media, Flash Gaming Summit will take place March 4, 2012 at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF in San Francisco, Calif. Now in its 4th year, Flash Gaming Summit continues to be the leading annual one-day conference dedicated to fostering the growth and success of the Flash games community. Early bird passes to the conference are now on sale, and Award Show nominations and speaking proposals are being accepted until December 31st.

Survey Highlights
The survey reveals trends in the Flash games industry, including the continued rapid growth of Flash game development globally, and evolving game distribution and monetization.

The most significant finding in the market during the past year has been that more than 60% of Flash game developers saw an increase in traffic and revenue when compared to 2010.

Survey research demonstrates that this growth has been enabled by a number of factors, including improved monetization capabilities and best practices across development platforms. Mobile has emerged as a strong monetization channel as app sales and in-game ads continue to mature as effective methods and as consumers increasingly turn to mobile devices as a primary gaming platform.

Additionally, the study showed an increase in the internationalization of Flash game developers. The number of developers in the United States, Great Britain and Canada -- which accounted for 56 percent of all developers two years ago -- only make up 37 percent of respondents this year. Russia (6%), India (3%), Italy (3%), Ukraine (3%) and Brazil (3%) represent the largest countries for Flash game development worldwide.

Finally, a new distribution trend emerged in this year's survey. Nearly 60% of respondents indicated that they develop games for online play to gauge market response and readiness before developing for mobile platforms. Android was the top target for mobile development (72%) followed by iOS (67%).
