Escape Communications Announces Availability of sub-20uS Ultra Low-Latency, Zero-Jitter Indoor Unit (IDU)

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 20, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Escape Communications, Inc., a leading provider of cost-optimized microwave radio Indoor Units (IDUs), today announced the availability of its sub-20uS Ultra Low-Latency Indoor Unit (EXM-2LL) for private labeling to OEM telecommunications system providers.

The EXM-2LL targets time-critical applications such as electronic trading and specialized scientific networks. With sub-20uS latency, the EXM-2LL is the leader in the ultra-low-latency Point-to-Point Microwave market. The EXM-2LL provides a dedicated 100 Mbps Ethernet port for ultra low-latency traffic. For more time critical applications, error correction within the IDU can be bypassed to achieve latencies below 15uS under favorable link conditions.

Moreover, the EXM-2LL faithfully transfers Ethernet clock rate from end-to-end and introduces zero packet jitter, making it ideally suited for emerging backhaul applications which require frequency and timing transfer through Ethernet.

The EXM-2LL builds on the proven, highly flexible EXM-2L platform. The IDU can be paired with a customer-unique or off-the-shelf outdoor unit (ODU) to provide a point-to-point (PTP) microwave connection and includes several key features:

  • Carrier-grade IDU for licensed band operation (serving ANSI and ETSI markets)
  • Ultra low-latency performance is independent of Ethernet packet length
  • Native Ethernet transmission
  • Embedded layer-2 switch with port-based VLAN security, rate limiting and QoS priority queuing for non low-latency traffic
  • Extensive link management capabilities: SNMP, custom MIB and HTTP GUI support

"We are extremely proud to announce the availability of our EXM-2LL IDU for point-to-point microwave ultra low-latency networks," said co-founder and CEO, Michael Stewart. "By providing an ultra low-latency IDU solution, OEMs can capitalize on the rapidly growing market for time-critical applications."
