Millstadt Police Department Uses Nixle Connect to Keep Public Informed

Service Ensures Residents Receive Timely and Accurate Information

ST. LOUIS, IL--(Marketwire - Jan 4, 2012) - The Millstadt Police Department encourages residents to sign up for Nixle notifications to receive important crime information and time sensitive alerts. With no cost to the department, taxpayers, or residents, the new Nixle Connect is a cost-effective solution for all public safety agencies throughout the country.

Nixle Connect allows Millstadt Police to communicate with the public via text/SMS, e-mail, and Internet posts at no cost. Communications can range from emergency alerts to routine day-to-day information including traffic and missing persons reports, safety tips, crime information, community outreach programs and other public safety information.

"We have been very pleased with Nixle since beginning to use it a year ago," commented Chief of Police Ed Wilkerson. "Without a newspaper for our community, Nixle gives us a way to get crime information out to the public as well as time sensitive information. It saves us both time and money and is a vital tool in our communication efforts."

Citizens can register to receive messages from Millstadt Police and other local agencies by sending a text message with their zip code to 888777. Online registration is also available at www.nixle.com.

"We are proud to be providing Millstadt Police this invaluable service that strengthens the partnership between the department and its citizens through communication," stated Eric Liu, Nixle CEO. "Nixle Connect assures that the Millstadt community will receive important information from their local police even when they are away from home, a feature that is invaluable in emergency situations."

Currently more than 4,600 government agencies have adopted Nixle for their means of real-time communications with residents, and more than 700,000 citizens have signed up to take advantage of the service. Year-to-year usage figures from August 2010 through July 2011 show that participating agencies created a total of 72,782 messages or 6,065 per month.
