Two NCAA Division I conferences and N.C. High School Athletic Association to hold track and field championships on Mondotrack

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., May 8, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new state-of-the-art track and field facility that features a Mondotrack, the official track of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the track of the 2012 London Olympics, has signed three agreements to host prominent collegiate and high school indoor track and field championships in 2013 and 2014. The partnerships, all signed since mid-March, will make JDL Fast Track the host facility and Mondotrack the surface for the Southern Conference championships in February 2013 and March 2014, the Big South Conference championship in February 2013, and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association championships, also in February 2013.

Manufactured by Mondo, the global leader in sports flooring, Mondotrack provides the optimum blend of speed, safety and comfort for both high-speed competition and training. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes' foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces.

Mondo's sports flooring also is used in non-competition areas of the arena: The warm-up track is the company's Super X Performance surface, and the non-athletic surfaces are Mondo's Baselast.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Medallion Athletics Products, a general contractor that sells and installs Mondo products, installed the Mondo surfaces.

"We knew that having Mondo, with its reputation and name recognition, would go a long way toward promoting the facility and enhancing its reputation," said Craig Longhurst of JDL Fast Track. "We were confident the Mondo track would be a selling point to collegiate athletic conferences and other organizations seeking venues for their meets, and we were right! We are very pleased with the championship meets we have already scheduled and look forward to booking more."

About JDL Fast Track

JDL Fast Track, one of the premier indoor track and field facilities in the southeast, is the brainchild of two former Wake Forest University runners and current real estate developers, David Shannon and Craig Longhurst, who identified and fulfilled a need for an area indoor track facility for use by colleges, high schools, local track clubs and youth track organizations. The privately owned indoor track and field facility, which opened in January 2012, houses a 200-meter oval track with a Mondotrack FTX surface—the same surface that will be used at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Field event areas include two pole vault runways, two long/triple jump runways, one high jump apron and one throws area. The facility also includes a 100-meter warm-up track, office and meeting-room space, a training room, and hospitality suites for coaches' or conference officials' meetings at large events.
