NCC reconstructs hydropower dam in Höljes for SEK 300 M

NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to remodel the Höljes power
station in the Municipality of  Torsby, Värmland. The client is Fortum
Generation AB and the order is valued at around SEK 300 M. The order will be
registered in the second quarter of 2012.
The Höljes power station on the upper Klarälven river was inaugurated in 1962
and has generated energy ever since.  As a result of new requirements fordam
safety, partly due to increased water flows, a number of features have to be
reconstructed. These include adapting the dam to enable it to release more water
via a new spillway.

“We will conduct the dam safety work while ensuring that the power station
continues to generate as much electricity as usual. This is a very interesting
project that involves major technological challenges,”says Anders Johansson,
Department Manager, NCC Construction Sweden, Western Region.

“NCC has been entrusted with the contract because of the company’s civil
engineering and technical expertise,”says Gunnar Henriksson from Fortum
Generation AB.

Work will commence in 2012 and is scheduled for completion in September 2015.
The project will employ at most about 80 individuals.

The contractual form is an implementation contract with design responsibility
for provisional coffer dams.
