The Brothers Kang Group Introduces Renowned International Cafe to New York City

NEW YORK, June 6, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On June 8th, world-renowned café, Segafredo Zanetti Espresso® will be introduced to the city that never sleeps with the public opening of Segafredo Zanetti Espresso NYC, a high-end café and cocktail lounge. Located at 504 6th Avenue in Manhattan (walking distance from the Meatpacking District, Chelsea, Union Square and the West Village), Segafredo NYC will provide internationally acclaimed authentic Italian espresso along with a unique menu that pairs modern Italian cuisine with global influences and a wide range of specialty cocktails, including Segafredo's traditional espresso cocktails that can be found world-wide. Segafredo NYC, developed by The Brothers Kang Group, will provide a relaxed yet upscale setting for patrons to experience an authentic Italian/European café-lounge.

"We have seen the recognition and success of Segafredo Zanetti cafés in Miami, Europe, Asia, South America and in over 650 locations worldwide and were stunned that New York City didn't catch on," said Bari Kang of The Brothers Kang Group. "We are thrilled to bring Segafredo NYC to New York, maintaining the Segafredo standard and, in typical New York fashion, expanding on its great concept."

The Brothers Kang Group is comprised of principals Bari and Amrinder Kang, serial entrepreneurs behind ventures in real estate, entertainment, retail and now hospitality as the owners and operators of Segafredo NYC. The brothers recognized the demand for a hassle-free, laidback café-lounge experience in New York City and after discovering Segafredo's proven track record of global admiration, were confident it would fill this void for New Yorkers, international tourists and espresso-lovers worldwide.

Founded by Massimo Zanetti, the number one private coffee roaster in the world, Segafredo Zanetti Espresso is a leading worldwide espresso chain with Italian credibility. Segafredo NYC will offer the espresso classics as well as specialty drinks. Some of the espresso options include:

  • Espresso con Panna (Segafredo Boutique espresso topped with a touch of whipped cream)
  • Americano (American style coffee from Segafredo Boutique espresso served with hot water to blend to liking)
  • Marocchino (Segafredo Boutique espresso over chocolate, topped with foamed milk and cocoa)
  • Goloso (Segafredo Boutique espresso over chocolate sauce topped with foamed milk, finished with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and shaved chocolate.)

"Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Cafès are located in the world's finest cities and we are excited to finally add New York City to that list," said Paolo Evangelista, VP, MZB Cafes U.S.A., Inc.

At the trendy Greenwich Village spot, Segafredo NYC guests will never spend time waiting in line, abiding by strict dress codes or facing any of the burdens associated with a chic, Manhattan destination. Instead, true to the Italian-European lifestyle, Segafredo NYC will offer a relaxed environment, where visitors will be surrounded by friends, family and neighbors, in a location where espresso is the star. The rules at Segafredo NYC are simple; slow down a bit and enjoy the relaxed ambiance, authentic Italian espresso, outstanding food, cocktails, and wine all complimented by elegant yet casual service provided by a friendly staff.

To ensure the menu matched their vision, the brothers took a hands-on approach and helped create Segafredo NYC's unique food and beverage menus to provide a memorable experience. Some of the menu items and cocktail selections include:

  • Burrata Caprese (fresh burrata and heirloom tomatoes served with a balsamic reduction and fresh basil)
  • Taj Bruschetta (home-made focaccia with goat cheese, fresh plum tomatoes, sautéed onions, sautéed spinach, seasonal grilled vegetables with garlic and coconut curry sauce)
  • Segafredo Martini (Signature Segafredo Espresso, Vodka, Kahlua and Dark Crème de Cacao)
  • 6th Ave (Pineapple Vodka, muddled pineapples, ginger ale, Limoncello, coriander and lemon juice)

"From the small plates and bruschetta to oysters and mussels, there is something on the menu to satisfy everyone," said Amrinder Kang of The Brothers Kang Group. "The espresso experience will remain unmatched and we will offer an extensive cocktail list and menu that will make Segafredo NYC a premier destination in New York."

In order to capture the European lifestyle and aesthetic at Segafredo Zanetti Espresso NYC, The Brothers Kang Group partnered with famed architect and designer, Antonio Di Oronzo to bring their vision to life. Antonio is the founder of Bluarch Architecture + Interiors + Lighting, a New York-based architecture and design firm that has received global recognition as the winners of the 2011 Hospitality Design Awards and the 2010 Boutique Design Awards, the 2009 Internationa Interior Design Association Award, amongst others.  Through Segafredo Zanetti Espresso NYC, Antonio Di Oronzo will transform the corner of 13th Street and 6th Avenue into a vogue, Italian café.

Segafredo NYC will be both a neighborhood classic as well as a New York City destination. Segafredo NYC will uphold the tradition of providing patrons a venue for espresso lovers as well as premiering a breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menu that will surely cement the already recognized brand in NYC as one of the hottest cafés to see and be seen in. The 2,500 square foot space will be open seven days a week; Sunday through Wednesday from 7AM-2AM and Thursday to Saturday from 7AM-4AM.
