GovDelivery Helps U.S. Small Business Administration Transform Communications Strategy for Digital Expectations

SBA Meets Open Government and Plain Language Requirements With GovDelivery's Digital Communication Management Solution

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GovDelivery, the leading provider of government-to-citizen communications solutions, announces the availability of a case study detailing its work with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to implement a two-year plan to drive more transparency, collaboration and citizen participation in all of its messaging as part of an initiative to revamp its communication strategy towards a digital focus. SBA's work with GovDelivery also enabled the agency to meet the open government directive issued by the White House and plain language requirements.

"The directives around open government and plain language communication along with the public's expectations and access to information from all levels of government has radically changed how government needs to communicate," said Scott Burns, CEO and co-founder of GovDelivery. "The White House's recent Digital Government Strategy calls for government agencies to shift from traditional outreach channels to a multichannel digital distribution. We're proud to work with the SBA to maximize its use of all digital communications channels, from email to text messaging and social media, to drive mission-critical results."

With the plain language and open government directives, SBA had to shift how it communicated with its stakeholders and the public, which required a transformation of its communications strategy. Today, SBA focuses on digital communications, such as email, rather than printed newsletters and has found GovDelivery's digital communications solution tool useful for designing and distributing email content, as well as training field office staff to write for the web and email to meet plain language requirements.

After only six months, SBA's new approach to communications has already yielded impressive results. In addition to meeting the open government directive, SBA has seen a clear uptick in website and blog traffic, with its site receiving 1.5 million visitors in a recent month and those visitors spending approximately four minutes per visit. SBA uses GovDelivery DCM to send out a variety of information, including seminars and events. A campaign around Government Contracting has led to a 72 percent increase in web page views since the campaign began. Also, SBA has yielded a 255 percent increase in entry-level courses like Government Contracting 101, due to the promotion of these events via email. More detail on SBA's approach to meeting its new communication objectives can be found in the case study, which can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/GDSBA_PR
