In June, Finnair traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres rose by 9.3 per cent as the overall capacity grew 1.3 per cent year‐on‐year. Passenger load factor improved by 6.0 percentage points and was 81.6 per cent. In the comparison period, Finnair's traffic was impacted by the tsunami in Japan and by events related to the Arab Spring.
Traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew in all scheduled traffic areas as the overall capacity was close to last year’s level. Traffic grew the most in Europe, where Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 9.2 per cent year‐on‐year. The new route launch to Chongqing on 9 May 2012 increased the capacity in Asian traffic slightly year-on-year. Asian traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres increased by 6.8 per cent year‐on‐year.
In April-June, the unit revenue* per available seat kilometre grew by 10.7% year-on-year, and was 5.83 euro cents.
“The load factors improved notably in all scheduled traffic in June, contributing to the improvement in unit revenue. In Europe, the load factor rose by almost 9 percentage points. Leisure traffic also grew significantly from last year, when the Arab Spring decreased traffic,” says Finnair CFO Erno Hildén.
In June, leisure traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 31.5 per cent, as capacity grew by 32.2 per cent year-on-year. The load factor was flat at 90 per cent.
In cargo, traffic measured in revenue tonne kilometres grew by 2.5 per cent. The load factor rose by 1.1 percentage points and was 67.1 per cent.
The arrival punctuality improved in June year-on-year. In scheduled traffic, 87.9 per cent (83.5 per cent in June 2011) of flights arrived on schedule, 87.8 per cent (82.6 per cent) in all traffic.
