Well Construction Automation Conference Taps Kepware's Knowledge

Company Presents New Automation Techniques for Bringing Manufacturing Excellence to Well Site Construction

PORTLAND, ME--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2012) - Selected by the Society of Petroleum Engineers for its industrial automation insight, Kepware Technologies announced today that John Harrington, Director of Sales and Business Development, will be presenting at the organization's Well Construction Automation - Preparing for the Big Jump Forward workshop. As the leader in advanced communications for automation, Kepware will detail new drivers and platform functionality that provide a complete automation communications solution for the well site drilling industry. The workshop will be held in Vail, Colorado from July 16th through the 18th.

"The well site drilling industry has dramatically increased in complexity," Harrington admitted. "Today, easy oil and gas reservoirs are gone, extraction techniques require more wells and directional drilling technology requires precision monitoring and control. A plausible solution to help manage this complexity resides in establishing a communications platform to a drilling site's multiple, heterogeneous devices and protocols, to automatically aggregate all the data in one place for complete monitoring and better decision making."

The company's presentation follows its recent announcement, Kepware Delivers Industrial Automation for the Oil & Gas Industry. Improving site efficiency and productivity, Kepware introduced KEPServerEX's new WITS Level 0 Drivers to improve safety and visibility while drilling wells. Kepware's WITS Level 0 Drivers for KEPServerEX, provide fast and easy access to real-time drilling and mud logging data across multiple geographic sites, including offshore drilling platforms, onshore rigs, and well sites. The new drivers also provide connectivity to numerous types of drilling equipment, such as Measurement While Drilling (MWD) down-hole drilling systems. The WITS suite of drivers allows the data collection of variables such as temperature, pressure, vibration, and mud consistency that are typically used in analysis of drilling operations.

In addition to WITS, the company also announced drivers with EFM capabilities that tap into stored data to monitor, manage, collect, and distribute real-time data and historical measurement information. The EFM Exporter takes the retrieved historical flow measurement data and creates appropriately formatted output files for upload into flow analysis and accounting software (Flow-Cal) for custody transfer and operational analysis purposes.
