Plastic Surgery Study Shows Patient Satisfaction Increases With Board-Certified Surgeons

LAGUNA BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 6, 2012) -  Dr. Daniel C. Mills, an Orange County plastic surgeon, believes the single most important factor in the success of any aesthetic surgery is the surgeon a patient selects. At the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute, Dr. Mills stresses the importance of selecting a doctor who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) even for non-surgical procedures. In fact, according to a recent study, the use of an ABPS board-certified doctor (or nurses and practitioners' assistants managed by an ABPS board-certified doctor) for injectable procedures produced the highest increase in patient satisfaction when compared to the identical procedure performed by a non-board certified doctor.

The RealSelf Medi-Beauty Trend Report released data in 2012 that illustrates a comparative study between those patients who used a board-certified practitioner for their procedure and those patients who did not. For injectables -- such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Juvederm®, Radiesse, and Restylane -- patients experienced an average increase of 31% in satisfaction with their procedure. Compared to surgical procedures, this increase in satisfaction is significantly higher. Breast lift and facelift procedures showed an increase of 9% in satisfaction. Liposuction rated the highest in satisfaction increase for patients using a board-certified practitioner for surgical procedures at a 24%.

Tom Seery, CEO at RealSelf, says this report indicates that patients are receiving better care and more satisfying results from board-certified physicians in cosmetic surgery and that prospective patients should take board-certification into consideration when choosing their provider. Dr. Mills and his Orange County plastic surgery practice, the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute, agree that patients should research their options. Building patient trust is important to Dr. Mills and his practice, and he believes that ABPS board-certification is the first step toward creating patient confidence in a practitioner.
