BuckleySandler Continues Expansion of New York Office With Addition of Second Former AUSA

Ross E. Morrison Adds Depth With Civil Litigation, Government Investigations & Financial Fraud Enforcement Experience

WASHINGTON, DC and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 10, 2012) - BuckleySandler LLP, a nationally recognized financial services and criminal and civil enforcement defense law firm, welcomes to the firm Ross E. Morrison, a former Assistant United States Attorney and Acting Chief and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. The arrival of Morrison follows that of his former colleague, Andrew W. Schilling, former Chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, announced in June. Morrison joined BuckleySandler as Counsel in its New York office, effective September 4, 2012.

"Ross was an invaluable asset at the U.S. Attorney's Office and I am looking forward to working with him again," noted Schilling, leader of the firm's government enforcement practice in New York. "He enhances our team with a clear understanding of the government's approach to complex financial and other civil fraud cases and brings a specialized set of litigation and negotiation skills that will help our clients to navigate increasingly complex and demanding regulatory and enforcement challenges."

Morrison has substantial litigation experience at both the trial and appellate levels and with government investigations and enforcement matters. During his nearly 11 years as an AUSA, he tried numerous cases before juries and the bench, and argued countless substantive motions in a wide variety of matters, including fraud, tax, bankruptcy, civil rights, criminal, constitutional and employment discrimination cases. He represented the United States in more than a dozen appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and as Acting Chief and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney reviewed government appellate briefs, prepared AUSAs for oral argument and served as a point of contact with the Justice Department. In addition, Morrison led investigations of entities and individuals accused of engaging in financial or other fraud and violating the False Claims Act and criminal laws. After leaving the government in mid-2011, Morrison has had an active commercial and financial services litigation practice.

"BuckleySandler's renowned team of lawyers, excellent reputation as a leading national law firm serving the financial services industry and its strong enforcement and litigation practice have made this an easy decision," explained Morrison. "I look forward to joining the team in New York and contributing to its continued success and expansion to meet the needs of its clients."

Morrison graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School (1994) and received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University (1991). Following law school, Morrison clerked for federal district court Judge Shira A. Scheindlin in the Southern District of New York, and then worked for five years at a large New York law firm. Morrison also serves as an adjunct professor at Fordham University Law School.
