OCBC and OCWIB Present 11th Annual Workforce Development Conference


IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2012) - Orange County Business Council (OCBC) and the Orange County Workforce Investment Board (OCWIB) present the 11th Annual Workforce Development Conference, sponsored by Union Bank, at the Hyatt Regency Irvine on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Under the theme, "Education and Workforce Realities in a 21st Century Global Economy," the conference will highlight changing workforce trends and the challenges Orange County must overcome to prepare a skilled workforce for the future. 

Former Orange County Superintendent Bill Habermehl will interview the conference's featured speaker, Michael D. Robinson, General Manager of U.S. Health and Life Sciences at Microsoft. As General Manager, Robinson drives Microsoft's business initiatives into commercial and private sector organizations. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Information Technology Senior Manager Forum, Pace University School of Business Advisory Board and the Howard University School of Business Information Systems Advisory Board, and is Board Chair of New York Urban League.

Topics of discussion will include: how businesses should prepare for a new generation of employees, the importance of S.T.E.A.M. education to emerging high-tech and creative industries, and how businesses can remain globally competitive through workforce development programs.

The conference will also feature the unveiling of the 2012/2013 Workforce Indicators Report, presented by OCBC's Chief Economic Advisor, Dr. Wallace Walrod. The Workforce Indicators Report is the product of a partnership between OCBC, the County of Orange, and OCWIB, and analyzes the growth of industry and employment, salary and wage trends, demographic changes and the educational attainment of Orange County students preparing to meet the jobs of the future.
