North American Partners in Anesthesia Selects Surgical Information Systems as AIMS Technology Partner

Alliance Combines Anesthesia Services and Information Technology to Support Improved Patient Safety, Care Quality and Perioperative Efficiency

MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the largest single specialty anesthesia management company in the United States, announced today that it has partnered with Surgical Information Systems (SIS), a leading perioperative IT and anesthesia information management system (AIMS) provider. The alliance enables the companies to offer SIS' Anesthesia, combined with NAPA's managed anesthesia services, to hospitals, health systems and other healthcare facilities to support improved patient safety, care quality and perioperative efficiency.

To achieve the efficiency levels needed to support rising OR case volumes and demands for improved quality of care, anesthesia providers are rapidly turning to anesthesia information management systems (AIMS).  Streamlining the documentation process enables providers to focus on the patient while providing information that is critical to care improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and accurate reimbursement.

"SIS is committed to delivering the tools anesthesia providers and hospitals need to support their goals of simplifying clinical documentation, improving care quality, and boosting financial performance" said, Ed Daihl, SIS Chief Executive Officer. "We are proud to partner with a preeminent anesthesia provider and look forward to working together to help NAPA hospital clients achieve peak performance in their ORs."

SIS Anesthesia enables providers to efficiently create complete and legible anesthesia records, supporting enhanced care delivery in the perioperative setting.  The system's rich data set and powerful analytics deliver the actionable information NAPA -- and their client hospitals – need to analyze, measure and track anesthesia and OR performance for quality, efficiency and compliance.  Enabling a consistent solution set and provider experience across facilities managed by NAPA also supports improved patient safety and outcomes.

"AIMS technology plays a critical role in accomplishing our most important goal: to improve healthcare," said Timothy J. Dowd, MD, NAPA Chief Executive Officer & Managing Partner.  "SIS's industry-leading solutions and perioperative IT leadership made the company the natural technology partner. Matching their world-class tools with top clinicians and leadership from NAPA will drive optimal clinical performance and  quality outcomes for our clients and their patients. "

"As an organization that prides itself on collecting and managing against data, we felt a partnership with SIS was a natural fit," said   Dr. John Di Capua, NAPA Deputy CEO and Chief Medical Officer.  "Together NAPA and SIS plan on developing a platform which will allow us to collect data across all clinical settings, while enabling us to further drive the use of best clinical practices across the entire NAPA network."

SIS and NAPA have been recognized by a number of industry organizations for their commitment to advance anesthesia:

  • SIS Anesthesia was rated #1 in the recently released anesthesia specialty report by KLAS.  In the report, AIMS 2012: Cooperation is Key, 100% of clients surveyed said they would buy SIS Anesthesia again.[1]
  • The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has awarded NAPA anesthesia management solutions the "Peer Reviewed by HFMA®" designation.
  • SIS was the first AIMS provider to achieve Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) Preferred Vendor status, and SIS Anesthesia is exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA) indicating the solution has met AHA requirements for quality, integrity, innovation, stability and flexibility.
  • NAPA is a founding member of the Anesthesia Business Group (ABG).

In addition to selecting SIS as a technology partner, NAPA and SIS will work together as development partners to create specialized anesthesia quality management tools.
