Universal Audio Qualifies Magma's Thunderbolt PCIe Expansion Chassis

ExpressBox 3T Provides a Solution for Using UAD-2 PCIe Cards With Thunderbolt-Equipped Computers

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 12, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Universal Audio (UA), a leading manufacturer of professional audio recording hardware and software, announced they have qualified the Magma ExpressBox 3T, a Thunderbolt to PCIe Expansion Chassis for use with their UAD-2 PCIe Card. UAD Powered Plug-Ins software version 6.3.1 (and higher) enables the operation of UAD-2 PCIe cards in Thunderbolt-to-PCIe expansion chassis products.

ExpressBox 3T is an 'outside-the-box' expansion chassis designed to use PCIe products with Thunderbolt-equipped computers to enhance high performance workflow. Up to three UAD-2 cards can be installed into Magma's ExpressBox 3T providing the desired upgrade path to the new Thunderbolt equipped Mac Book Pro, iMac or Mac Mini without sacrificing full access to UAD Powered Plug-ins and without losing the investment in PCIe hardware.

"Qualifying our UAD-2 PCIe DSP Accelerator cards for peripherals like the Magma ExpressBox 3T is another important step in bringing our customers next-generation connectivity to their audio production workflow." says Lev Perrey, Director of Product Management. "Now our customers have the flexibility to use their PCIe cards with a whole slew of new Apple products besides the Mac Pro tower — including MacBook Pros."

"Magma and UA have worked closely to ensure compatibility and high performance of our market leading Thunderbolt products." says Randy Jones, CEO and President at Magma. "UA's reputation as a leader in pro audio and Magma's long standing expertise in expansion technology will provide customers with rock solid expansion solutions leveraging the breakthrough Thunderbolt technology."
