J.P. Morgan Three-Peat: No. 1 on All-America Research Team for a Third Year

Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank Log Strong Gains in Institutional Investor's Annual Ranking of Top U.S. Equity Analysts

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Oct 16, 2012) - J.P. Morgan leads the All-America Research Team, Institutional Investor's annual ranking of the country's best sell-side research analysts, for a third year running. Barclays holds steady in second place, followed by Bank of America Merrill Lynch in third.

Complete survey results can be found at www.institutionalinvestor.com.

J.P. Morgan adds three positions, for a total of 43, and widens its lead over Barclays, which returns with 39. BofA Merrill, which tied with Barclays last year, slips to third after losing five spots, leaving it with 34.

Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank Securities are the big gainers -- leaping to fourth and fifth place, respectively, after picking up seven positions each. Morgan Stanley, with 33 total, rises from No. 6; Deutsche Bank, with 32, bolts from eighth place.

This year has been especially challenging for analysts, notes Thomas W. Johnson, II's managing editor/research. "They must keep clients up-to-date on the latest news -- much of which has been bad -- about Europe's debt crisis, China's slowing growth, and political gridlock in Washington," he says, "while also pointing out encouraging signs from corporate America and the investment opportunities that exist. With the U.S. hurtling toward a year-end fiscal cliff of spending cuts and tax hikes -- not to mention next month's presidential and congressional elections -- the demands on analysts are only going to increase."

Survey results reflect the opinions of nearly 3,300 individuals at some 950 buy-side institutions that manage an estimated $9.93 trillion in U.S. equities, or 77.4 percent of the $12.83 trillion market capitalization of the MSCI U.S. index at the time of polling.
