Manhattan Endoscopy Center Expands Free Colonoscopy Program for Uninsured New Yorkers in Partnership With Settlement Health and The Bowery Mission During Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Mar 14, 2013) -  In an effort to improve patient care for uninsured New Yorkers, Manhattan Endoscopy Center LLC (MEC), Manhattan's most advanced and largest endoscopy center, has announced their commitment to advocating for timely colon cancer screening through their partnership with Settlement Health and The Bowery Mission. Throughout the month of March, national Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, MEC physicians will expand their charitable programs to make more free colonoscopy screenings available to those in need.

The commitment to providing access to screening services to those in need resonates strongly with MEC's physicians. The physicians from MEC have worked together to bring these critical screening services to New York's uninsured population. "Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and one of the most treatable types of cancer if caught early, so the importance of screening, especially if you are over 50 or have a family history, is critical to saving lives," said Dr. Carl McDougall, physician leader in MEC's partnership with Settlement Health. "Our team is passionate about bringing critical screening services to those in need and educating the public about the importance of screening and early detection."

As part of their charitable program, the team of physicians at MEC offers colon cancer screening services to uninsured members of the community. In an effort to bring heightened awareness and more critical screening services to the community, the program will be expanded to include additional cancer screening throughout the month of March.
