ABC's "Shark Tank" to Feature Colon Cancer Alliance Advocate and Survivor J. Jones

DENVER, April 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- J. Jones, Jones Scones founder and colon cancer survivor, will pitch Jones Scones on ABC's hit reality show Shark Tank on April 19th at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The episode's airing will coincide with the launch of the Jones Scones Colon Cancer Campaign, an exciting new campaign between Jones and the Colon Cancer Alliance, in honor of National Cancer Control Month.

Jones describes the partnership, saying "President Barack Obama recently issued a proclamation declaring April as National Cancer Control Month. As a survivor, I know how critical cancer screening and prevention are to fighting this disease. But we have to get the message out – that's why I'm partnering with the Colon Cancer Alliance and supporting their mission for colon cancer awareness and prevention."

The former lawyer and now self-proclaimed "Scone Slinger," will make his pitch to convince a panel of five tough, self-made, multi-millionaire/billionaire "Sharks" to part with their own hard-earned cash and give him the necessary investment funds needed to jumpstart his business concept.

The concept is, of course, scones. But to Jones, it isn't just about baking a masterpiece. As he puts it, "When you enjoy Jones Scones, you're getting a piece of my dream and my heart."

In 2012, Jones was diagnosed with colon cancer. The experience provided a life-changing moment of clarity and encouraged him to pursue what mattered most. The result has been the wildly popular Jones Scones.

Jones has refused to let cancer slow him down. Even though he'd just been diagnosed with cancer when he had the opportunity to appear on Shark Tank, he couldn't turn down the opportunity to be on the show, pitch Jones Scones and raise awareness.

"I had surgery exactly five weeks before we taped and started chemo two days later. I couldn't be more grateful for the chance to be on ABC, meet the Sharks, and tell the world about Jones Scones," Jones, who is now cancer-free, says. "The show is likely to bring more people than we've ever had to our website. With all those people, I thought we might be able to do some good for the Colon Cancer Alliance."

The Jones Scones Colon Cancer Campaign starts on April 19^th and aims to raise at least $10,000 for the nation's oldest and largest colon cancer organization.
