WANdisco Integrates S3-Enabled HDFS Feature With Latest Apache Hadoop Distribution

WDD 3.6 Simplifies Public to Private Cloud Migration and Data Import

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 26, 2013) -  Hadoop Summit, Booth 50 -- WANdisco (LSE: WAND), a provider of high-availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data and distributed software development, today announced the newest release of WANdisco Distro (WDD). Powered by Apache Hadoop 2, WDD 3.6 includes S3-Enabled HDFS as well as utilities for seamlessly importing data from external sources into HDFS.

Simplified Cloud Migration and Data Transfer
With WDD 3.6 and the new S3-enabled HDFS feature, all Amazon S3 capabilities are delivered, including searchable metadata tagging of images, video and other unstructured data, snapshots, and data object versioning. In addition, popular third-party applications that use Amazon's S3 API will run unmodified. By implementing WANdisco's Non-Stop NameNode solutions with WDD 3.6, private cloud deployments with these S3 features are available 24/7, with unmatched scalability and performance.

WDD, which features an intuitive UI that simplifies Hadoop cluster installation and administration, also supports seamless and transparent data ingestion into HDFS from external sources such as webserver logs, data appliances, RDBMS servers, and others. Finally, a new Hadoop user stack interface architecture simplifies the addition of Hadoop ecosystem components for further ease of deployment.

"Feedback from the Wikibon community indicates that the public cloud, specifically the Amazon Web Services cloud, is a popular choice for experimenting with Hadoop and Big Data application development," said Jeff Kelly, Big Data Analyst, Wikibon. "Many enterprises, however, prefer to bring Hadoop back in-house when moving to production. WANdisco Distro with S3-enabled HDFS makes migrations significantly simpler, allowing enterprises to seamlessly move data from the Amazon cloud to in-house private cloud environments without needing to rewrite Big Data applications."

All WDD components are tested and certified using Apache BigTop, a sophisticated framework for the development, integration testing, and deployment of the Apache Hadoop ecosystem. WANdisco also works closely with the open source community as well as other leading big data vendors to ensure seamless interoperability across the Hadoop ecosystem, enabling users to leverage investments in new and existing Hadoop-compatible tools and applications without vendor lock-in.

"An increasing number of enterprises are looking to move their skunkworks projects from Amazon to private clouds and WANdisco Distro simplifies the process," said David Richards, CEO of WANdisco. "With this release, we're continuing to simplify Hadoop so enterprises can focus on reaping the benefits of Big Data."
